Are you visiting Italy for the first time? Why is Italy an Ideal Country for Travel? Because Italy has everything. History, sea, delicious food, beautiful cities, it is possible to learn and relax while walking. Walking in ancient cities like Rome is also interesting, and taking a gondola ride in Venice is also a great country to go to the sea in the summer, and to visit museums in the fall.
If you are only going on a week-long trip, it is very important to divide your time correctly. It is not easy to find time to visit every corner in a large and interesting country like Italy. Planning a route will make your trip more comfortable and worthwhile. In this blog, we will present you with a detailed itinerary for a 1-week tour of Italy. The tour plan is prepared for both summer and autumn seasons, so you can easily apply it if you visit Italy at any time. You will find detailed instructions on what to do in which city every day. Information about beaches, islands and boat tours, as well as suitable transportation suggestions to see more places without straining your budget, will also be included in the blog.

Travel Preparation
Advance preparation is essential for traveling to Italy. Booking your tickets and hotels at least 1-2 months in advance will help you get the best prices. Discounted prices offered by airlines and hotels are often available, so booking early will give you both better value for money and better availability. You can find detailed information on how to get the best flight deals for your trip on our blog by clicking here.
However, before you can make these preparations, there is one important step: getting a visa. If you are a citizen of Azerbaijan, getting a visa is a must. Therefore, getting a visa should be the first step.
Italy Schengen Visa
Similar to other Schengen countries, there are single-entry and multiple-entry types of Italian Schengen visas. In each case, you can apply for long-term visas, i.e. three months, six months, one year, two years or five years. After obtaining an Italian Schengen visa, it is possible to enter any Schengen country. However, in any case, we recommend that you make your first entry into the Schengen area from the country where you obtained the visa, i.e. Italy. Otherwise, if you try to enter the Schengen area from another country with an Italian visa, if you do not indicate this when applying for your visa, this may, although rarely, become a problem for you, and the border service of that country may turn you back and refuse you entry. This experience has occurred in some cases and for this reason we recommend that you avoid this risk.
If you are applying for an Italian Schengen visa, you must indicate the maximum number of days, i.e. the duration, that you will stay in Italy during your trip. Many tourists, when planning their trips to Italy, include Spain, Austria, Switzerland, France and several other European countries in their tour plans. Such situations are nuances that will not cause any problems in your visa application. Simply indicating Italy as the country where you will stay the most during your total trip will be enough for you to apply for a visa at the Italian embassy.
Documents Required for Italy Schengen Visa Application
When applying for an Italy Schengen visa, you must submit the following documents:
- Original and copy of the first page of your foreign passport
- Copies of your previous visas and entry-exit stamps, if applicable
- Copy of your ID card
- Certificate from your place of employment* and, if applicable, an extract from your salary card (certificate from your educational institution for those studying)
- Certificate from the e-government portal
- Certificate* and extract from your bank account in your name. (Detailed information on the amount is listed below)
- If applicable, a copy of the property certificates* and the vehicle registration certificate
- Proof of your civil status* (If married, a copy of your marriage certificate, if you have children under 18, a copy of your birth certificate or, if your marriage has been dissolved, a copy of the document on the dissolution of the marriage)
- 2 biometric photos of you, 3.5x4.5 in size, with a white background
- Airline tickets for your trip
- Hotel reservations for your trip
- Travel insurance in accordance with Schengen rules that will fully cover your trip
- Application form completed in English
- If you are applying for a visa for a business trip, not a tourist one, then an official invitation letter for that work, event or meeting
The documents marked with an “*” must be submitted to the embassy in English. If you have obtained the original document not in English, but in Azerbaijani, in this case, each of these documents must be translated into English by a notary and certified and submitted to the embassy.
After your documents are accepted, in each case, during your visa procedure, the embassy may call you and ask you to submit new documents. In some cases, the Italian embassy has required applicants to purchase the hotels they have booked and submit documents confirming this to the embassy during the visa procedure.
The amount in your bank account varies depending on the travel dates you have indicated, i.e. the duration of your stay in Schengen, the price of the flight tickets and hotels you have booked, etc. In general, it is advisable to indicate an amount in the range of at least 3,000-5,000 AZN (the equivalent in euros or US dollars is also valid) in your bank account for a one-week trip. This amount should fully cover your travel plan. When calculating the amount, you can add the cost of your ticket and hotel reservations to the average daily cost of 70-80 euros for each day you indicate that you will stay in the Schengen area and assume a slightly higher figure than you get.
If you are an entrepreneur, you can submit documents that will replace the certificate from your place of work (copy of your TIN, certificate of turnover from the Ministry of Taxes, extract from the register of your company) to the embassy. If you are unemployed, studying or in any case you are sponsoring another person to cover the costs of your trip, in this case a copy of that person's ID card, a certificate from the place of work (if an entrepreneur, the documents listed above), a certificate and an extract from the bank account (this bank account can be in your name or in the name of the sponsor), if you have a family relationship, a document confirming this (for example, if it is your parent, your birth certificate, if it is a brother or sister, both birth certificates, etc.) and a sponsorship paper must be submitted to the embassy. If the applicant is under 18 years of age, in this case, a copy of the permission document from both parents to leave the country if traveling alone, or from the other parent if traveling with one of the parents, must also be submitted during the visa application.
Note that even if you submit documents such as TIN, turnover certificate from the Ministry of Taxes, your company's extract from the register, or sponsorship paper, permission paper, you must have each of these documents translated into English and certified by a notary.
Probability of Getting an Italy Schengen Visa
As with all countries' embassies, your chances of getting a visa in Italy depend on the status of your profile. Your job and position are normal, your monthly income is in the standard salary range and higher (in practice, visas have been granted to people with a monthly income of 400-600 AZN), you have enough money in your bank account to cover your entire trip, the presence of nuances that tie you to the country (having property in your name, having a family and children) and your travel history are factors that increase your chances of getting an Italian Schengen visa. For those who have not previously had a Schengen visa, the Italian Embassy may be considered a relatively risky choice as a first visa application. Although in our experience, there are many applicants who have received their first Schengen visa from the Italian Embassy, the Italian Embassy is a risky embassy for getting your first Schengen visa, except in cases where the other nuances in your profile (listed above) are in a high state. In any case, having previous Schengen visas is a factor that increases your chances of getting a visa from the Italian Embassy.
Visa Procedure
The application for an Italian Schengen visa is made at the VFS Global visa application center of the Italian Embassy. The decision on the visa is made by the consul at the consular department of the Italian Embassy in Baku. For detailed information about the Schengen visa application and the VFS Global visa center, you can visit our blog by clicking on the link.
The visa appointment to submit documents is carried out from Monday to Friday, from 09:00 to 16:00, through the online system of the VFS Global Italy application center. It is important to make an appointment for a visa application. It is important to collect and submit the documents correctly during the appointment.
The visa application can be made no earlier than 6 months before the date of travel. As a rule, the personal presence of all applicants when submitting documents is mandatory.
The Italian Schengen visa procedure usually lasts 7-14 calendar days from the date of application (excluding official non-working days related to holidays). However, experience shows that if everything is in order with the documents and during a period when there are not many visa applications, the answer can be known in 2-3 business days. In some cases, the embassy can provide an answer even a day before the flight date.
