Greece is one of the most beloved tourist destinations, famous for its sea views, white-painted houses, and unforgettable sunsets. Especially Santorini and Mykonos are among the best choices to relax and experience Greece’s unique atmosphere. If you plan to visit these islands, let’s take a look at the exciting experiences awaiting you!

Santorini – Sunset and Historical Beauty

Santorini is a volcanic island famous for its blue-domed white houses and stunning views of the Aegean Sea from its cliffs. Here are the key places to visit:

  1. Oia Village – The World’s Most Beautiful Sunset Oia is the most famous area of Santorini, and its sunset view is considered the most beautiful in the world. Every evening, hundreds of tourists gather here to watch the sun dip into the sea.
  2. Fira – The Heart of the Island Fira is the capital of Santorini and attracts attention with its restaurants, souvenir shops, and natural landscapes. You can enjoy the old volcanic caldera, take the cable car to the harbor, or walk the historical paths on donkeys.
  3. Red and White Sandy Beaches Santorini’s beaches are unique with their different colors. Red Beach is famous for the red hue given by volcanic rocks, while White Beach is known for its light color created by limestone.
  4. Akrotiri Archaeological Excavation Site If you are interested in historical places, visit the ancient city of Akrotiri. Known as the "Aegean Pompeii," this site contains ruins from the Minoan civilization that lived here thousands of years ago.

Mykonos – An Island of Entertainment and Ancient History

While Santorini offers a peaceful and romantic atmosphere, Mykonos is known for its lively energy and entertainment. Here you’ll find luxurious villas, famous beach clubs, and vibrant nightlife.

  1. Mykonos Windmills The windmills, which are an iconic symbol of the island (Kato Milli), were built in the 16th century and provide a perfect spot for taking beautiful photos.
  2. Little Venice – Colorful House Streets One of the most charming spots on the island is Little Venice. Its colorful houses built on the water and cafes and restaurants by the sea make it a perfect place for a romantic dinner.
  3. Paradise and Super Paradise Beaches Mykonos is famous for its beach parties with renowned DJs performing at Paradise and Super Paradise beaches. If you’re looking for a dynamic and fun vacation, you shouldn’t miss it!
  4. Delos Island Tour From Mykonos, you can take a short boat ride to the historic island of Delos. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is believed to be the birthplace of the ancient Greek god Apollo.

Traveling Between Santorini and Mykonos

Traveling between Santorini and Mykonos is easy. There are daily fast ferry services between the two islands, and the journey takes about 2-3 hours. You can enjoy both islands’ unique atmospheres and the stunning views of the Aegean Sea during the trip.

Greece Visa Types

You can travel to Greece, which is part of the Schengen area, with a Greece Schengen visa. The reasons for applying for this visa may include tourism, visiting family or friends, business trips, medical treatment, short-term education, exchange programs, and other temporary purposes. Recently, many young people have opted to study for long-term programs (such as bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral studies) in Greece or work at institutions based there, in which case they can apply for a Greek national visa with official invitation or acceptance letters from the educational institution or employer.

Greece Schengen Visa

Like other Schengen countries, Greece offers single-entry and multiple-entry Schengen visas. You can apply for long-term visas as well, covering periods such as three months, six months, one year, two years, or five years. After obtaining a Greece Schengen visa, you can enter any Schengen country. However, we recommend that you make your first entry into the Schengen area through Greece, as entering from another country (especially Western European countries) might cause complications if not clearly stated during the application process.

If you are applying for a Greece Schengen visa, you must indicate that you will spend the most time in Greece during your trip. Many applicants and travelers add countries like Italy and Malta to their travel plans, which will not cause any issues with your visa application. You only need to specify Greece as your primary destination for your application to be processed by the Greek embassy.

Documents Required for Greece Schengen Visa Application

When applying for a Greece Schengen visa, you must submit the following documents:

  • Original passport and a copy of the first page
  • Copies of previous visas and entry-exit stamps (if applicable)
  • Copy of your identity card
  • Employment certificate, and salary statement (for students, an enrollment certificate)
  • Work-related certificate from the e-government portal
  • Bank statement and account balance from your bank
  • Copies of any property deeds or vehicle registration (if applicable)
  • Proof of marital status (e.g., marriage certificate, birth certificates of children under 18, or divorce decree)
  • Two recent passport-sized biometric photos with a white background
  • Airline ticket bookings for your trip
  • Hotel reservations for your trip
  • Travel insurance that covers your entire stay according to Schengen rules
  • Completed visa application form in English
  • Printed confirmation of the visa appointment
  • If applying for a business trip, an official invitation letter

Documents marked with an asterisk (*) must be presented in English. If your documents are in Azerbaijani, they must be notarized and translated into English.

After submitting your documents, the embassy may contact you for additional documentation or clarification.

Visa Procedure

To obtain a Greek Schengen visa, you need to apply to the Greek Embassy in Azerbaijan. The decision on the visa is made by the consular department of the embassy, by the consul.

To submit your documents, you can schedule an appointment by contacting the embassy at +99412 492 01 19 during weekdays. The appointment time is set based on the travel dates. The closer the travel date, the later the appointment will be.

Please note that when submitting the documents, a brief interview will take place with the consul. During this interview, you may be asked short questions about yourself, your personal life, your travel plans, and the purpose of your trip.

The embassy does not accept documents without an appointment. Visa applications can be made as early as 6 months before the travel date. Personal presence is mandatory when submitting documents.

The Schengen visa procedure usually takes 5 to 15 business days. However, the response may be received sooner or later. This should be considered when applying.

The visa fee must be paid in cash in the amount of 35 euros in national currency, i.e., in Azerbaijani manat. The exchange rate is determined by the embassy based on the daily rate.

Chance of Obtaining a Greek Schengen Visa

As with any embassy visa application, the chances of obtaining a visa in Greece depend on the condition of your profile. Having a stable job and position, a monthly income in the standard salary range (in practice, individuals with a monthly income of 300-500 AZN have often obtained a visa), showing enough funds in your bank account to cover the entire trip, having ties to the country (such as property in your name, family, and children), and having a travel history can increase your chances of obtaining a Greek Schengen visa. For individuals who have not previously held a Schengen visa, the Greek embassy is not considered a high-risk embassy. In our experience, many individuals who did not have a travel history received their first Schengen visa from the Greek embassy. Of course, all other documents must be in order. However, having previous Schengen visas can increase your chances of obtaining a visa from the Greek embassy.
