What Is a Canada Visa?
A Canada tourist visa (Visitor Visa or Temporary Resident Visa) is a short-term visa issued for tourism, family visits, or business trips. This visa allows the holder to enter Canada for a certain period of time.
Canada visa applications are mainly processed online, and the applicant must prove the purpose of travel, financial situation, and intention to return to their home country.
Documents Required for a Canada Visa
The documents required for a Canada tourist visa may vary depending on the applicant’s personal situation. Generally, the following documents are required:

- Copies of previous visas and entry/exit stamps (if any)
- Copy of ID card
- Employment letter* and salary card statement (for students: student certificate*)

The embassy may request additional documents during the application process.
How to Apply for a Canada Visa?
Visa applications to Canada can be submitted in two different ways:
Online Application
The most commonly used method is the online application.
In this case, the applicant creates a personal account on the Government of Canada’s online portal and selects the visa type. After answering the system’s questions, the list of required documents is generated.
After uploading all documents electronically, the application is submitted and the payment stage begins. Visa and biometric fees are paid online.
After submission, the account will show a notification regarding biometric data submission. This document is printed and submitted to the visa application center along with the passport, where fingerprints are taken.
After biometrics are completed, the visa processing begins. The result is provided again through the online account.
If the decision is positive, the original passport is requested and sent to the Canadian Embassy in Ankara for visa stamping. This stage usually takes 6–8 working days.
Paper-Based Application
In the paper-based application, the original passport and other required documents are submitted directly to the visa application center.
Application forms are filled out electronically, printed, signed, and submitted with the documents. Biometric data is also collected during the application.
Visa fees are paid online in advance, and the payment receipt is added to the documents.
After the decision is made, the passport is returned either with a visa sticker or a refusal letter.
How Long Does It Take to Get a Canada Visa?
The processing time for a Canada tourist visa may vary depending on application volume and embassy workload.
Currently, Canada tourist visa applications take approximately 150–210 working days to be processed.
Therefore, it is recommended to prepare your travel plan in advance and apply as early as possible.
Canada Visa Fees
For 2026, the following fees apply for a Canada tourist visa application:
- 100 CAD – visa application fee
- 85 CAD – biometric fee
- 100 AZN – visa application center service fee
The 100 CAD and 85 CAD fees are paid online. The 100 AZN service fee is paid in cash at the visa application center.
How to Increase Your Chances of Getting a Canada Visa?
The chances of obtaining a Canada visa are mainly evaluated based on the applicant’s financial situation, employment status, and travel history.
Key factors that increase approval chances include:
- Having an official job
- Stable and sufficient monthly income
- Sufficient funds in your bank account
- Property registered in your name
- Strong family ties and proof of return intention
- Good travel history
Experience shows that even individuals with a monthly income of 700–800 AZN can obtain a Canada visa if other factors are strong.
Do Schengen and US Visas Help?
Yes. Previous travel history and visas can positively influence the decision.
If your passport includes:
- Schengen visas
- US visa
- UK visa
- Australia or other developed country visas
this demonstrates your international travel experience and increases your chances of approval.
In particular, an active US visa is considered a strong advantage in Canada visa applications.
Can a Canada Visa Be Refused?
Yes. The Canadian Embassy may refuse a visa application in the following cases:
- Insufficient financial means
- Weak ties to the home country
- Unclear travel purpose
- Incomplete or inconsistent documents
- Weak or no travel history
Therefore, it is very important to prepare all documents correctly.
