The Netherlands, where orange dominates the country, but the harmony of all the colors in its cities creates magnificent landscapes, is known worldwide for its art and culture, especially its museums! More than 20 million tourists travel to the Netherlands every year and experience memorable moments. If you also want to be among these tourists, obtaining a Netherlands Schengen visa will be the beginning of your plans. You can get detailed information about the Netherlands visa from this article.
Netherlands Visa Types
You can apply for a Netherlands Schengen visa for a temporary stay in the Netherlands, which is a Schengen country. The reasons for applying for this type of visa include tourism, visiting family or friends, business trips, medical examination or treatment, short-term studies, exchange programs and other temporary situations. If you wish to study in the Netherlands for a period of more than 90 days for a long-term study (such as bachelor's, master's, doctoral, etc.) or to work permanently in an organization located here, you can apply for a Netherlands national visa based on an official invitation or acceptance letter from the relevant education and employment authorities. Now, we will provide you with general information about the Netherlands Schengen visa.
Netherlands Schengen Visa
Similar to other Schengen countries, the Netherlands Schengen visa is available in both single-entry and multiple-entry types. You can also apply for visas with a validity of three months, six months, one year, two years or five years. Once you have obtained a Netherlands Schengen visa, you can enter any Schengen country you wish during your trip. However, we always recommend that you make your first entry into the Schengen area from the country where you obtained your visa, i.e. the Netherlands. Otherwise, the border service of that country may turn you back and refuse you entry. Such cases have already been observed in some cases and therefore we recommend that you avoid this risk.
If you are applying for a Netherlands Schengen visa, you must indicate that you will spend the majority of your trip in the Netherlands. Often, travel plans include Spain, France, Belgium and other European countries in addition to the Netherlands. Such situations do not pose any problems with your visa application; simply indicating the Netherlands as the main country of stay in your overall travel plan is sufficient for the application.

It should be noted that among those applying for a Dutch visa, the French Embassy has requested an extract from the e.gov.az government portal in addition to a reference from the workplace from those applying for a visa for the first time. After your documents are accepted, the embassy may call you during your visa procedure and ask you to submit additional documents. In rare cases, as part of the visa procedure of the French Embassy, applicants have been required to purchase their hotel reservations and submit documents confirming this.
The amount in your bank account will vary depending on the travel dates you provide, the prices of the flights and hotels you book, and other factors. In general, it is recommended that you have a minimum of 3,000–5,000 AZN (also the equivalent in euros or US dollars) in your bank account for a week of travel. This amount should fully cover your travel plans. When making your calculation, it is recommended that you include the cost of your tickets and hotel reservations, as well as an average daily expense of 70–80 euros for each day you spend in Schengen, and enter a slightly higher amount than you get.
If you are an entrepreneur, you can submit documents that replace the certificate from your workplace (a photocopy of your TIN, a certificate of your turnover from the Ministry of Taxes, an extract from the register of your company) to the embassy. If you are unemployed, studying, or sponsoring another person to cover your travel expenses, a photocopy of that person's ID card, a certificate from your workplace (if the sponsor is an entrepreneur, the documents listed above), a certificate and extract from your bank account (this account can be in both your and the sponsor's name), if you have a family relationship, a document confirming this (for example, if you are a parent, your own birth certificate; if you have a brother or sister, both birth certificates) and a document on sponsorship must also be submitted. If the applicant is under 18 years of age, traveling alone, traveling with both parents or one of their parents, a photocopy of the exit permit from the other parent must also be submitted.
Please note that each of the documents you submit, such as your TIN, a certificate of turnover from the Ministry of Taxes, your company's extract from the register or sponsorship document, and a permission slip, must be notarized and translated into English.
Visa Procedure
The application for a Dutch Schengen visa is made at the French Embassy's Capago visa application center, as there is no Dutch consulate in our country. Therefore, the visa decision is made by the consul at the consular department of the French Embassy.
Visa appointment for submission of documents is available online. It is necessary to make an appointment in advance for submission of documents. Visa application can be made no earlier than 6 months before the travel date. Except for applicants exempted from fingerprinting, all applicants are required to be present in person when submitting documents.
Individuals Exempt from Fingerprinting Are Divided Into The Following Groups:
- Persons who have received a Schengen visa in the last 3 years and have their fingerprints in the system (except for Czech visas)
- Children under 12 years of age
- Persons who are physically unable to provide fingerprints;
- Persons who hold a diplomatic or special passport and are accredited to diplomatic or consular posts in the Netherlands
- Diplomatic or consular personnel who will be assigned to an international organization with a headquarters or representative office in the Netherlands and their family members (spouses and dependent children)
The Schengen visa procedure can be completed within 3–5 business days from the date of application.
It should be noted that our experience shows that the French Embassy adjusts the duration of the visa procedure according to the start date of the trip. Applicants with closer travel dates will receive their visa results sooner. However, the duration of the visa procedure is not only dependent on this factor; the complexity of the application may also have an impact.
The visa fee is set at 35 euros. This amount can be paid in the national currency, that is, in cash in manats, or by card in any currency. When submitting documents, in addition to the visa fee, 26 euros is paid as a visa center service fee. This payment can also be made in cash only in manats or by card in any currency. The manat equivalent of the visa fee is regulated by the embassy based on the daily exchange rate.
Hollandiya Şengen Vizası Alma Ehtimalı
As with any visa application, your chances of obtaining a visa in the Netherlands depend on your personal profile. Having a stable job, a normal position, and a monthly income in the standard salary range or higher (in practice, visas have been issued to people earning a monthly income of 400–500 AZN), having sufficient funds in your bank account to cover all travel expenses, having factors that tie you to the country (for example, property registered in your name, the presence of your family and children), and a rich travel history are among the main factors that increase your chances of obtaining a Dutch Schengen visa. In our experience, although the number of people who obtain their first Schengen visa from the French embassy is quite high, we note that the French embassy is somewhat risky for the first visa application if your profile is not at a high level. Having one or more Schengen visas in the past significantly increases your chances of obtaining a Dutch visa from the French embassy. Also, compared to other Western European and highly developed European countries (e.g. Germany, Italy, Scandinavian countries, etc.), the French embassy may be a more convenient option for initial visa applications in some cases.
